Stein writes to Johnson, who appears to be acting as her agent. She is very pleased that publisher Harrison Smith has taken her book To do, "a book very close to me as it was written during all the days of the debacle in France." She notes that her novel Mrs. Reynolds will soon be completed. She says Mrs. Reynolds contains "simple conversation between an average couple ... with Hitler and Stalin as a background, under other names ..." Stein also reminds Smith that all of her writings should first be submitted to Bennett Cerf for publication, but if he rejects them, "then as you think best."
